Great to see everyone’s comments. Luckily I haven’t been involved in disasters as such, only what happens in hospital Emergency Depts in major traumas and the chronic under-education of kids from Kenyan slums.
Catherine has explained well how a slow cycle DRM works with El Nino. It’s also interesting how the ‘disaster of Cyclone Pam was never stood down. This proves that recovery stages can be very longstanding and exacerbated by further disasters.
Chris: does this happen often??
Michael K has explained how the rapid response with social media helped in the fundraising with the Nepalese earthquake. Chris’ model diagrams really do show that media attention is earlier in rapid onset events and slower in slow onset events and that’s seen with Michael here.
