What is TorqAid
TorqAid is an Australian-based international global development consultancy which has operated since 1992. It offers a range of Disaster Risk Management (DRM), Community Engagement, Project Management, Capacity Building (Teaching & Training), and Resource & Networking services across Australia and overseas. Its Directors, Chris and Marilyn Piper, are experienced Global Development Practitioners (GDPs), who have worked in the Asian-Pacific, Eastern and Southern African, Central American, US, European and Australian regions.
ONLINE DISASTER RISK MANAGEMENT (DRM) TRAINING
Since 1992 TorqAid has facilitated over 110 accredited Disaster Risk Management (DRM) and Participatory Project Management (PPM) workshops across Australia and overseas. Since mid 2016, this service has been supplemented by an online accredited DRM program, This consists of six modules, the first four of which (Mods 1, 2, 3a, 3b) relate to DRM issues; the fifth (Mod 4) to PPM; and the sixth (Mod 5) to Complex Humanitarian Emergencies (CHEs). The 2018 program is currently being reviewed, and a new brochure will be ready by the end of January. Individuals can work through at their own pace, and it is likely that there will be two main cohorts of students throughout the year, namely those studying from Feb-June, and then from July-Nov.
Consultancies are primarily humanitarian focused. They include the preparation for, response to, and recovery from, a range of hazards and potential disasters.
Four main types of training are offered, namely:
- On online accredited Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Program
- Accredited DRM and Participatory Project Management (PPM) workshops for clients either across Australia or overseas
- Practical workshops on Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM), again either across Australia or overseas
- Short training sessions on up to five key topics for stakeholders such as schools, churches, universities, NGOs, businesses and government departments
